Music

The Parish Choir

The Parish Choir forms the core of the St. Andrew’s music program as it leads choral music at the 10:30 Sunday Eucharist.  Music performed includes pieces from our Anglican heritage, spirituals and pieces from other cultures.  Parishioner volunteers are joined by professional singers to provide music of the highest caliber for worship.  The choir often sings an offertory anthem, a psalm setting and occasionally a communion motet.  All are invited to become a part of this hard-working ensemble.  To ensure proper placement and music reading ability, a simple vocal interview is all that is required. Rehearsals are on Thursdays at 7 p.m. and Sundays at 9:30 a.m.  During the summer, the Summer Choir, open to all children and adults, rehearses on Sunday mornings at 9:15.

The Organ
The organ of St. Andrew’s was built in 1977 by the Wicks Pipe Organ Company of Highland, Illinois.  The three-manual organ totals 38 ranks of pipes with about 40 stops spread over four divisions: Great, Swell, Choir, and Pedal.  Mr. Ray Stilwell, a former organist & choirmaster, assisted in the design of the instrument and serves as the curator for the organ.

Guest Instrumentalists
The St. Andrew’s music program strives to lead creative worship in many ways. To this end, we incorporate guest instrumentalists in our services. While some of these are professional musicians (such as our fantastic “Trumpets & Drums” ensemble at Easter), parishioner musicians are always welcome  to collaborate with the organist for special musical offerings. If you play an instrument and would like to share your gift in worship, please let us know.

 Handbell Choir
Ringing within the choral season, the Handbell Choir often performs on Feast Days and during the seasons of Advent and Easter.  The ensemble uses the parish’s three octave set of Malmark Handbells.  Rehearsals are scheduled at different times within the season. If you have always wanted to do something musical but have not found the right “niche” come and visit a rehearsal!

Contemporary Music
St. Andrew’s celebrates a diversity of music within a typical week of worship events.  Contemporary music groups are open to instrumentalists and vocalists to help lead congregational song at the 9:15 Sunday morning service.
